WEIGHT LOSS WITH LUCY

BRENE BROWN

You either walk inside your story and you own it, or you stand outside your story and hustle for your worthiness.

(2 minute read)

Hi Friend!

For 30 years of my existence, the struggle to overcome obesity resulted in havoc and turmoil within me and my life. The fight cost me precious time, money, health, and contentment.

There were many fresh beginnings, but the same old story always  unfolded. It’s boring to read a book where all the chapters seem the same: pain and frustration with no result.

Everything shifted in the most painful chapter... An 18-wheel tractor trailer collided with my car, and in one moment everything in my life changed. Ironically, the healing journey after the wreck simultaneously added an additional 60 pounds onto my lifelong battle with my weight.

You know how you worry about overpacking your suitcase for airplane travel? The extra weight I constantly carried was equivalent to more than two overstuffed checked bags: more than 100 pounds (45 kgs).

The shame I felt was so overwhelming that I didn't want to look at the scale. My official starting weight when I had the courage to step on the scale again was around 275. However, my medical records indicate my highest weight was about 300 pounds.

A few problematic chapters doesn’t mean your story is over. There comes a point where something shifts within you, and you just have to yell PLOT TWIST and move on.

Your life is your story, and the secret to creating an extraordinary story is to write well and edit often. Healing from a brain injury and the aftermath of the wreck taught me the most difficult thing about healing. It doesn’t matter what’s been written in your story so far, it’s how you fill up the rest of the pages that matters.

A light bulb lit up in my mind when I asked myself: Isn’t a weight loss journey simply a healing journey? Healing is a commitment to liberating yourself from what ails you. The beautiful thing is that at any given moment, you have the power to say: This is not how my story is going to end.

The challenges of life and the wreck taught me tremendous lessons about healing. What if I didn't need to lose the weight? What if I needed to heal the weight?

The champion in the story is the one who despite weakness, doubt, or not always knowing the answers, pushes ahead and overcomes anyway. Victory was declared in my story when I created my own strategy to lose weight for good. My over 100 pounds weight loss has been maintained for more than 5 years.

I’ve been at points in my life where I have heard someone’s story and thought: “This is exactly what I needed to hear today.” My hope is that my story will do that for someone else.

When we write our story, we can’t let anyone else hold the pen. This is because the real story is not the plot, but how the character unfolds. If you allow me, I’m here to step into your story to support you and cheer you on.

If you're ready to become the champion of your story, check out my website. This place was built from blood, sweat and tears, and it was designed from my heart. It is for anyone who stands in the shoes I once wore.

Much Love,

Lucy Laramie
